As promised in my previous blog post, I am thrilled to conclude this month’s blog posts from Nigeria. If you’re interested in experiencing a typical day in my life at the Lagos Business School (LBS), I encourage you to watch my latest ‘Day in the Life’ vlog.
After almost a year of planning, I have finally arrived in Nigeria, where the humid air, the bustling streets of Lagos, and it’s warm and welcoming people have greeted me. Since my arrival, I have been busy interacting with the LBS community, spending days at the library writing, and adapting to my new home for the next month.
On an average day, my routine begins with a structured morning, followed by designated time slots for writing, and an evening to unwind. This video offers an authentic portrayal of my life as a visiting researcher in Lagos, Nigeria, showcasing my living arrangement, morning routine, library visit, and the challenging yet exciting experience of adapting to the humid climate. On October 26th, my schedule followed its usual pattern with a slight deviation, let me explain.
Mornings
My alarm rang at 5:45, but due to the heat, my wake-up time was 5:30 on this particular day. I followed my usual morning routine of quiet time, prayer, gratitude journaling, and a workout, which I now had the convenience of doing at the hotel gym. After my workout, I returned to my room to get ready for the day and prepare for my therapy session, which was scheduled for 9:00 WAT. I felt significantly lighter after my session as we discussed my move to Nigeria. I then headed to the library to start my work, which is usually divided into set blocks of time, making my day more productive. The LBS has a cafeteria where they serve breakfast and lunch, so at around 11:00, I met up with a friend at the cafeteria for coffee and fruit. After that, I went back to the library to continue my writing.
Afternoons
Due to having a cafeteria break earlier, I experienced my first slump of the day at 14:30. In light of this, I decided to go to the mini restaurant on campus, known as the gazebo, for a light lunch. Afterwards, I returned to the library to complete more work. It wasn’t until 16:30 that I decided to head back to the hotel.
Evenings
After experiencing exhaustion from the heat, I returned to the hotel and attempted to rest, making a few calls to my loved ones for moral support and editing the day in the life vlog. I began to wind down at 23:00 by filling out my planner for the following day and eventually headed to bed. I hope you enjoy it.
